Prospects for Kazakh-Canadian Cooperation in Transport and Logistics Discussed in Ottawa

Ottawa, November 6, 2024 – An expert roundtable discussion was held on Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics potential and our country’s role in the international transport system.

During the event, Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Canada Dauletbek Kussainov familiarized participants with the main goals and objectives of the Kazakhstan’s government on the development of existing and new international transport routes/corridors, ongoing work on the formation of reliable logistics chains and building an effective transport policy.

Special attention was paid to the importance of fully unlocking the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) connecting Asia and Europe. Thus, according to the Canadian participants, the TITR can play a decisive role in the economic development of our country, expanding the volume of freight traffic, and increasing trade of the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus and Turkiye.

Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Timur Tlegenov, who took part in the event, informed about the current state of Kazakhstan’s aviation industry, placing special emphasis on promising infrastructure projects, including the development of small aviation.

Following a detailed discussion of projects, representatives of Canadian businesses expressed interest in the implementation of joint transport and logistics projects in Kazakhstan and agreed to continue dialogue in this area.

The Canadian side was also invited to participate in the Astana International Forum scheduled for May 2025.
