Major Canadian mining companies are interested in implementing joint projects in Kazakhstan

Astana, June 1-2, 2023 - Initiated by the Embassy of Kazakhstan, a group of major Canadian companies are visiting Astana to participate in the 13th Astana Mining & Metallurgy Congress and hold talks with the Government of Kazakhstan.

The Canadian delegation included representatives of such industry giants as Nutrien, TeckResources, Barrick Gold, Hatch, B2Gold and Cameco Corporation. It is worth mentioning that the agreement to arrange Canadian mission to Kazakhstan was achieved by the Canadian Embassy at the PDAC Toronto International Mining Conference in March this year, where Kazakhstan delegation, for the first time in the history of our participation, was represented on quite a prestigious level - over 50delegates. Representatives of the Canadian business took part in the Plenary Session with the Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan M. Karabayev, as well as in the Strategic Session and a number of technical sessions of the Mining and Metallurgy Congress. During their meetings and presentations, the Canadian representatives gave a positive assessment of the progress of Kazakhstan's subsoil use reforms and of the government's efforts to develop the geological industry. "The resource potential of Kazakhstan has not been fully exploited and Canadian companies, with their substantial experience and advanced technology, can assist in this process," said Canadian businessmen.

A special session on "Kazakhstan-Canada cooperation in natural resources extraction and processing" was held during the Congress in Astana with active participation of business representatives from both countries. The program of the session included speeches and presentations from the management of MIID, MFA, AIFC and Qaztrade, as well as representatives of various business associations and the financial sector. In addition, Canadian companies held a series of B2B meetings on the implementation of prospective projects and an initiative to establish a North American Mining Hub in Kazakhstan for the Central Asian region.

Following the visit of the Canadian delegation, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Canada was awarded the AMM Congress award for support and effective work.
