Kazakhstan’s Ambassador meets Storting members

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Norway, Adil Tursunov, met with the members of the Norwegian Storting, Aleksander Stokkebø and Bård Andre Hoksrud.

The Norwegian parliamentarians will visit Kazakhstan to observe the elections as part of the mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

On March 19, early elections to the Majilis (lower house of the Parliament) and maslikhats (local representative bodies) will be held in Kazakhstan. Following the reforms initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, a mixed proportional-majority model will be used in the elections, new political parties will take part, and a 30 percent quota for women, youth and people with special needs will be established.

The role of election monitors is crucial as the country is committed to holding free, open, and fair elections. Kazakhstan has invited ten international organizations and scores of observers from foreign nations to observe the election.
