NAURYZ - THE PEOPLE'S GREAT DAY

Nauryz, an ancient holiday, the festival of the vernal equinox begins today. Many peoples of Central Asia, the Middle East, and the Balkans celebrate Nauryz.

"Nauryz" means a "new day." In essence, it is a New Year, according to the ancient eastern tradition. Kazakhs call this holiday a "Great Day of the People" ("Ulysty Uly Kunі"). It is believed that a generous celebration of Nauryz brings health, abundance, and success for the whole year.

"Nauryz is the fortune for all people of Kazakhstan, regardless of their ethnic origin and religion. We are all united by common aspirations and the energy of creation. Each of us is ready to share the most valuable, share the joy and help relatives, friends, neighbors in difficult times," President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in his congratulatory address.

"Unfortunately, this year, the Nauryz holiday is taking place in unusual circumstances. The threatening spread of coronavirus, which has become a pandemic, has seriously damaged the global economy and negatively impacted our country," he said.

"I do not doubt that together we will cope with dignity with these enormous difficulties and show our people's unity and solidarity. I wish everyone good health and great success!" said the President.
