Participation of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Mexico in the XXVII session of the OPANAL General Conference

Mexico City, September 30th, 2021. The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Mexico took part in the XXVII session of the General Conference of the Organization for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL), held in a virtual format.

In its address, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Mexico informed conference participants about Kazakhstan's international initiatives in the field of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, noting that this year marks the 30-year Anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, and a 15-year Anniversary of the creation of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free zone in Central Asia. The importance of signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Central Asian Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone and OPANAL in the near future was also discussed. In conclusion, the Kazakh side called on the representatives of the OPANAL member states to support the updated resolution on Universal Declaration on the Achievement of a Nuclear- Weapon-Free World, which will be considered by the First Committee of the UN General Assembly in New York from October 4 to November 4, 2021.
