Kazakh Ambassador holds annual meeting with Kazakh students studying in UK universities

LONDON, 24 November 2021 – Erlan Idrissov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United Kingdom, held an annual meeting with young Kazakh students studying in UK universities. The meeting was organised by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the UK and the UCL Kazakh Society. About 100 students from all over the UK attended the meeting.

The event focused on the issues of interest to Kazakh students in the UK. Taking into account the challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Ambassador Idrissov spoke in detail on such topics as vaccination, quarantine restrictions in Kazakhstan and the UK, health and safety issues and air traffic between the two countries. Special attention was paid to the quality of the educational process during the pandemic.

The Ambassador briefed the students on the events hosted by the Embassy to mark the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence and focused on the results of the participation of the Kazakh delegation led by Prime Minister Askar Mamin in the UN Climate Change Summit in Glasgow.

Over the 30 years of independence, Kazakhstan has achieved a lot, in terms of both political and economic growth. Now, according to Ambassador Idrissov, the goal is to keep building qualitatively on those results, and for the students it is about achieving the highest possible results in their studies.

In this regard, the Ambassador mentioned the address of the First President of Kazakhstan – Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev to the youth at the ‘Тәуелсіздік ұрпақтары’ (Descendants of Independence) nationwide forum which took place on the same day. He highlighted Elbasy’s words that since the dawn of Independence, comprehensive support for young people has been and remains one of the key priorities of state policy.

The students had the opportunity to meet and exchange contacts with each other and with Embassy employees, as well as discuss topics of interest, including assistance in conducting research, internships and employment. The meeting also highlighted the upcoming annual London Job Fair for Kazakh students in 2022 hosted under the auspices of the Embassy of Kazakhstan, as well as the next Central Asian Research Forum on Sustainable Development and Innovation hosted jointly with the Kazakhstan PhD Association in the UK.
