Kazakh literature to be showcased at Online London Book Fair 2021

The Embassy of Kazakhstan in the UK, the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Kazakhstan’s National Bureau of Translations (NBT), are to take part in this year’s Online London Book Fair on 21 June – 1 July.

The London Book Fair (LBF) is a major annual book-publishing trade fair. It is a global marketplace for rights negotiation and the sale and distribution of content across print, audio, TV, film and digital channels. Every year LBF sees more than 25,000 publishing professionals arrive in London from around the world. This year, the fair will go ahead as a digital-only event, the Online Book Fair.

2021 is the year of the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. To mark the occasion, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the UK, in partnership with Kazakhstan’s National Academic Library and the National Bureau of Translations, is presenting the best of Kazakh literature at the Online Book Fair 2021. At our virtual stand, you will find free-access books, excerpts, videos, and websites to get to know Kazakhstan, its people, history, culture, and soul better.

Among other publications, Kazakhstan’s stand will showcase Selected Works of Chokan Valikhanov, Anthologies of Contemporary Kazakh Literature, and ABAI, a complete collection of works by Abai Kunanbaiuly. These premiere English-language volumes were published in partnership with Cambridge University Press in 2019-2020.

The stand will also include books from National Academic Library’s new e-library, as well as the new Oxford Dictionary of the Social Sciences and Oxford Dictionary of Economics published by NBT in Kazakh language in cooperation with Oxford University Press. NBT will also present its current project of the new Oxford Qazaq (Kazakh) Dictionary, which covers 500,000 words and is expected to be published at the end of 2021.
