The National Library of Portugal enriched with a book by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev "He Makes History"

On December 2, the National Library hosted the presentation of the book by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev about Elbasy "He Makes History", published before the Day of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the event, timed to the Day of the First President and the 30th Anniversary of Independence, Ambassador Daulet Batrashev noted that the book revealed the remarkable personality of Nursultan Nazarbayev, contained interesting observations of the author and previously unknown historical facts, and told about important decisions of the Elbasy, which strengthened the modern Kazakh State, heir of the great nomadic civilization.

The work, published for the first time in Portuguese on initiative and with support of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Lisbon, is one of the most authoritative sources to study the history of independent Kazakhstan, not only for the Portuguese reader, but also for the international community of around 300 million Portuguese speakers worldwide.

Continuing the good tradition of enhancing cultural and humanitarian links and sharing knowledge, several copies of book were donated to the main Portuguese library, as well as recent Embassy publications in Portuguese, including the Head of State's Address "Unity of the People and Systemic Reforms are a Solid Foundation for the Nation’s Prosperity".

Maria Inês Cordeiro, Director General of the National Library of Portugal, welcomed the development of cooperation between our countries in the field of culture and literature. According to her, Kazakh works are gaining recognition among Portuguese readers, who will be interested in the news on expansion of the book collection of the country's main library.

In his turn, the deputy editor-in-chief of Portugal's largest daily newspaper "Diario de Noticias" Leonidio Paulo Ferreira, spoke about his trips to Kazakhstan, during which he witnessed first-hand the successful development and achievements of our country. The key role played in this by the national leader Nursultan Nazarbayev, his personal qualities, strategic vision and pragmatic policy are undeniable as well as deeply revealed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, a direct participant in the events described.

Following the event, the parties agreed to finalise as soon as possible the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Library of the Portuguese Republic.
