Kazakhstan and Portugal ready for active development of interparliamentary cooperation

On March 4, in Lisbon, a discussion of the prospects for the development of interparliamentary cooperation between Kazakhstan and Portugal took place.

During the meeting with Portuguese deputies, Ambassador Daulet Batrashev informed about the celebration by our country of the 30th Anniversary of Independence this year and the milestone achievements of Independent Kazakhstan.

Considerable attention was paid to topical issues of bilateral cooperation, including the possibility of expanding the dialogue between the parliaments of two countries.

In this context, the Chairman of the Assembly's Labour and Social Protection Committee, Pedro Roque Oliveira, announced the Legislative Assembly's readiness to create an inter-parliamentary Friendship Group "Portugal - Kazakhstan", by the initiative of 10 deputies representing different political parties.

Pedro Roque Oliveira praised the potential of the Kazakh-Portuguese parliamentary diplomacy and expressed his readiness to personally lead the Friendship Group. In addition, the participants of the meeting explored the possibility of organising a visit of a delegation of Portuguese deputies to Nur-Sultan city in the first half of 2021.

The discussion also focused on opportunities for cooperation between the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), based in Lisbon.
