Kazakhstan and Ukraine are increasing cooperation in education

On May 25, 2021, the Kazakh delegation headed by the rector of Eurasian L.N. Gumilyov National University, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Organizations of Higher and Postgraduate Education of Kazakhstan Yerlan Sydykov, with the assistance of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Ukraine, held a number of fruitful meetings with Ukrainian partners.

During the meeting with President of the Union of Rectors of Ukraine Leonid Gubersky, a wide range of issues in the educational and scientific spheres were discussed. The parties exchanged information on current trends in the development of higher education in the two countries and exchanged experiences on improving the quality of education.

1. Sydykov spoke about Kazakhstani approaches to the optimization of higher educational institutions and the role of the Council of rectors of organizations of higher and postgraduate education in Kazakhstan. At the same time, the Kazakh representative made a number of specific proposals for building up cooperation with the Ukrainian side.

In this regard, L. Gubersky noted a good, strong historical relationship between universities of the two countries, more than 90 Ukrainian universities have cooperation agreements with about 60 universities in Kazakhstan.

Following the meeting, an Agreement on Cooperation was signed between the Council of Rectors of Institutions of Higher and Postgraduate Education in Kazakhstan and the Union of Rectors of Higher Educational Institutions of Ukraine. An agreement was also reached on the possibility of organizing a joint meeting of the rectors' associations.

At a meeting with the rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Volodymyr Buhrov, the parties discussed practical steps to build up interuniversity cooperation.

In particular, it was proposed to work out the issues of organizing double-diploma education, exchange of students and teaching staff, development of academic mobility and internships between universities, cooperation in the field of fundamental scientific research, including the possibility of creating joint laboratories and periodicals, assistance in the preparation of expert opinions for scientific research, etc.

Following the meeting with the leadership of the KNU, an agreement was reached to update the Agreement on Cooperation, adding new directions, as well as to consider the possibility of including the Kazakh language in the educational program of the Department of Turkology at Kyiv National University.

Within the framework of the meeting, the presentation of the book "Shakarim" in Ukrainian, of which E. Sydykov is the author, also took place. The translation was carried out by the candidate of sociological sciences of Ukraine, honorary professor of KNU P.V. Tokar. Books were donated to the KNU library.
