Kazakhstan and Canada compare notes

On the initiative of the Canadian side, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada François-Philippe Champagne.

During the conversation, the sides discussed the countries' measures to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation and interaction in the international arena.

The sides noted that the pandemic has radically changed the daily lives of people and has a significant impact on the entire system of international relations.

The Canadian side thanked Kazakhstan for participation and informative speech of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during the high-level UN event on financing sustainable development in the era of the coronavirus pandemic initiated by Canada and Jamaica.

The Canadian Foreign Minister noted Kazakhstan's leading role in the region and expressed Ottawa's readiness to further build constructive and mutually beneficial relations with Nur-Sultan.

Mr. Tileuberdi noted the need for further development of the political dialogue and stressed that the bilateral meeting between President Tokayev and the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau in February 2020 in Munich, as well as the visit of Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, to Kazakhstan in 2018 gave an impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation.

The sides called for further intensification of interaction both in the bilateral format and in the international arena, including on issues of nuclear non-proliferation, sustainable development, food security and human rights.
