Ambassador of Kazakhstan Kanat Tumysh, having paid a working visit to Ho Chi Minh City on November 20-21, 2023, held a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee of this city, Mr. Vo Van Hoan.
During the meeting, the sides noted the recent successful official visit of the Head of Kazakhstan to Vietnam and, focusing on some topical issues of mutual cooperation, voiced their proposals for the practical elaboration of a number of issues. In particular, according to:
1) assigning one of the streets of Almaty to the name of an outstanding Vietnamese politician, national leader Ho Chi Minh;
2) holding Days of Culture of Vietnam in Kazakhstan during the official visit of the President of Vietnam to Kazakhstan in the summer of 2024;
3) the signing in 2024 of a modified version of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the cities of Almaty and Ho Chi Minh City;
4) strengthening scientific and humanitarian ties and the work on the exchange of students and teaching staff between universities of the largest cities of the two countries;
5) to promote the further growth of mutual tourism, which has been trending towards an increase in recent years. The parties agreed that for these purposes it is necessary to restore direct flights between Almaty and Ho Chi Minh City (Kazakh airline «Air Astana» worked on this route before the COVID pandemic; Vietnamese airline «VietJetAir» is also ready to consider the possibility of flights in this direction in 2024). Moreover, this proposal will be especially appropriate after the entry into force of the visa-free regime between Kazakhstan and Vietnam. It is expected to come into effect from the beginning of 2024.
In addition, Ambassador Kanat Tumysh informed about the ongoing work on the chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), discussed the issues of enhancing cooperation between the OTS countries and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The parties agreed that for these purposes, it would be very important for both ASEAN and OTS to use the «Middle Corridor» to maximize the development and expansion of transit, transport and multimodal logistics potential along the Vietnam-China-Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan-Turkey-Europe route.
In turn, Mr. Vo Van Hoan noted the general support for Kazakhstan's initiatives, given the high level of relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Kanat Tumysh during the trip also took part in the largest Vietnamese food exhibition «Food Expo Vietnam», which has an international status, having familiarized himself with the stand of Maximus LLP (a company located in Aktobe that produces high-quality Kazakhstani wine and vodka products for export), organized at the exhibition site.
