February 12, Astana, Mazhilis House. The Chair of the Mazhilis Committee on International Affairs, Defense, and Security, Aigul Kuspan, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Kazakhstan, Nicolaas Schermers. The parties discussed strengthening bilateral relations, including within the framework of interparliamentary cooperation.
Aigul Kuspan noted that the Kingdom of the Netherlands is an important political and economic partner of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the European Union. Our countries have established a solid legal framework covering all areas of cooperation.
– This is evidenced by regular high-level contacts. In May last year, Prime Minister Mark Rutte visited Astana. I am confident that our bilateral relations will continue to develop in the spirit of mutual respect, friendship, and trust, – emphasized the Mazhilis member.
According to Aigul Kuspan, parliamentary contacts play an important role in the political dimension of bilateral cooperation. The Kazakhstan-Netherlands interparliamentary cooperation group operates in the Mazhilis. Deputy Maxim Rozhin, who participated in the meeting with Ambassador Schermers, is a member of this friendship group. He noted that Kazakhstani deputies are interested in continuing interparliamentary dialogue with the Netherlands to facilitate a broad exchange of legislative experience in various fields. The Netherlands’ expertise in agriculture and sports is of particular interest to Kazakhstan.
In response, Nicolaas Schermers emphasized the importance of Kazakhstan as a key partner for Europe, particularly for the Netherlands. He also noted that people-to-people contacts form the foundation of bilateral relations. Therefore, the Ambassador assured that he would make every effort to enhance cooperation at the friendship group level.
The parties also discussed expanding collaboration in the agro-industrial sector. A crucial role in this area is played by the Kazakh-Dutch Agricultural Committee. Negotiations are underway to upgrade its status to the level of an intergovernmental commission.
