On the participation of the Kazakhstan delegation at the meeting of UN human rights leaders

Geneva, December 12, 2023 - The Chairperson of the Constitutional Court, Elvira Azimova, and the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kairat Umarov, participated in the Leaders' Segment as speakers at the High-Level Roundtable on "The Future of Human Rights, Peace and Security". The head of the Kazakhstan delegation presented Kazakhstan's vision for strengthening international peace and security through the lens of human rights.

In her speech, Ms. Azimova outlined three key factors for ensuring peaceful and sustainable development: the protection of the rights and fundamental freedoms of each individual; the rule of law for political stability, economic and social progress; and the commitment of each participant in international relations to the goals and principles of the UN Charter. She also shared Kazakhstan's experience in promoting peace and tolerance through political reforms aimed at improving the well-being of every citizen.

The Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan became the only speaker from our region at the UN Leaders Segment.

On the sidelines of the high-level event, First Deputy Foreign Minister Kairat Umarov also held bilateral meetings with the heads of the World Health Organization, the International Labor Organization and World Intellectual Property Organization to discuss current issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as promising areas of interaction.

At the end of the Kazakhstan delegation's visit to Geneva, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kairat Umarov, will meet with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, to discuss the Action Plan of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of human rights, approved by the Head of State on 8 December 2002, and the question of the participation of the UN Office for Human Rights in the work on its implementation.
