Geneva, June 13, 2023 – During the visit of Dr. Sayabek Sakhiyev, Director General of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Geneva, Addendum No. 11 to the Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN), which allows the Kazakh Institute to participate in the scientific NA62 Experiment.
Moreover, Sayabek Sakhiyev had meetings with Dr. Joaquim Mnich, CERN’s Director of Research and Computing, Mr. Emanuel Tsesmelis, Head of the Department for Relations with Associate Members and Non-EU Member States, Mr. Christoph Schafer, Senior Advisor for Relations with Kazakhstan, and senior technical specialists of the NA62 Experiment.
The parties underlined the importance of the practical cooperation for Kazakh science, which will contribute to the gradual integration of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics in other CERN experiments.
CERN is the world's leading organization in the field of elementary particle physics research. It is headquartered in Geneva (Switzerland).
NA62 is a CERN’s scientific experiment at a super-proton synchrotron beam aimed at the so–called "golden" mode of decay of a charged K-meson into a π-meson and a neutrino-anti-neutrino pair. NA62 is a continuation of a series of previous high-precision experiments – NA48, NA48/1, NA48/2, which were among the best experimental achievements of the European Center for Nuclear Research.
