Marking the 30 years of cooperation, Kazakhstan remains committed to socio-economic progress and improvement of working conditions

Geneva, June 12, 2023 – the tripartite delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan headed by the First Vice Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Akmadi Sarbassov is taking part in the 111th session of the International Labour Conference and the World of Work Summit - the largest events under the auspices of the International Labor Organization (ILO), attended by thousands of representatives of governments, employers and workers from 187 countries.

In his statement at the plenary session, the head of the Kazakh delegation noted that the current year is marked by the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's membership in the ILO. Akmadi Sarbassov outlined the main efforts that our country has been taking towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, improving social and labour policy in accordance with ILO standards, as well as strengthening social partnership (government – workers - employers).

Kazakhstan’s representative informed about the steps to strengthen the social support mechanisms for the population, carried out as part of large-scale reforms of the Head of the state, in particular, the Social Code and the Digital Family Card.

During his visit to Geneva, Akmadi Sarbassov had meetings with the ILO Director General Gilbert F. Houngbo, heads of departments of the Organization's Secretariat, as well as representatives of the International Organization for Migration, the International Trade Union Confederation and heads of delegations of several countries.

Having positively assessed the current cooperation level with our country, ILO representatives confirmed their readiness to continue providing technical assistance in the implementation of the Organization’s recommendations and standards, as well as to prepare the Decent Work Country Program.

The Republic of Kazakhstan joined the International Labor Organization on May 31, 1993.

Over the years of joint work with the ILO, Kazakhstan has incorporated obligations under 25 ratified conventions into national legislation.

The ILO has a tripartite structure. The representatives of employers and workers have an equal voice in the determination of policies and programmes, along with representatives of governments.
