The Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan is constantly working to expand the geography of flights and increase the number of regular international flights.
So, on July 26-27, 2023, negotiations were held between the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan and Qatar with the participation of carriers of the two countries.
On the part of Kazakhstan, the delegation was headed by the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee of the MIID of the Republic of Kazakhstan Talgat Lastayev, on the part of Qatar - the Head of the Aviation Authorities of Qatar Mohamed Al-Hajri.
As a result of the negotiations, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, which expands the legal framework for flights:
- from 7 to 14 flights per week between the cities of Astana and Doha on each side;
- from 7 to 14 flights per week between the cities of Almaty and Doha on each side;
- from 7 to 10 cargo flights per week on each side, including 5 degrees of “air freedom".
Thus, the number of permitted frequencies has been increased from 21 to 38 flights per week.
Based on the agreements reached, Qatar Airways plans to increase the number of flights operated on the Almaty - Doha route from 1 to 2 times a day (from 7 to 14 flights per week) by the end of this year.
Also, in mid-2024, the airline plans to open an air service on the Astana - Doha route.
Currently, Qatar Airways uses wide-body aircraft of the Boeing-787 Dreamliner type on flights to Kazakhstan. During the negotiations, the airline announced that it would increase the use of these types of aircraft on flights to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The increase in the number of flights between Kazakhstan and Qatar will accelerate the development of tourism, cultural, investment and business cooperation between the countries.
