Welcoming Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his gratitude to the Emir of Qatar for participating in the work of the Astana International Forum at the head of the delegation, which included representatives of the Government and the business community of Qatar.
The President stressed that Qatar is an important and reliable partner for Kazakhstan in the Middle East, and expressed confidence that today's talks will give a new impetus to the further development of cooperation between the two countries.
- It will soon be 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. Certainly, this is an important milestone. During this time, we have established effective interstate cooperation and a constructive political dialogue. Last year you paid a state visit to Astana. Recently, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan paid a visit to Qatar. All this serves as a clear evidence of traditional friendship and strong partnership. You personally make a great contribution to deepening ties between our countries. I highly appreciate this and am ready to work with you to further strengthen Kazakh-Qatari relations. For our part, we are ready to provide all necessary support to Qatari investors,” the Head of State said.
According to the Head of State, Kazakhstan is ready to increase exports to Qatar of about 60 types of products for a total of $250 million. In addition, in order to intensify business contacts, it is important to open direct flights between the two countries.
In turn, the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, thanked the President for his hospitality and warm welcome.
– I gladly accepted the invitation to participate in the Astana International Forum in order to visit Kazakhstan again. This is a great honor for me. I am glad to see you again after my visit to Astana last October. This is another good opportunity to discuss the implementation of the agreements reached with fraternal Kazakhstan during last year's negotiations. I was accompanied by a large delegation from Qatar, consisting of representatives of the business community. I believe that this will pave the way for successful cooperation between our countries. Today, bilateral cooperation is developing dynamically in various sectors. We intend to expand cooperation in other areas, - said Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
During the meeting, the heads of state discussed with investors the prospects for the implementation of joint projects in the oil and gas, mining and metallurgical, agricultural industries, medicine and the financial sector. The issues of mutually beneficial cooperation through international organizations were also considered.
