The level of cooperation with Qatar continues to increase

On August 23, 2021, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, received a Kazakh delegation headed by First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov, who arrived in Doha on a working visit. During the meeting, issues of Kazakh-Qatari cooperation were discussed. The Emir highly appreciated the development of relations between Nur-Sultan and Doha and stressed that he expects a new meeting with the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev during his visit to Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh delegation included A. Satkaliyev, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC «National Welfare Fund «Samruk-Kazyna», Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, National Economy, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as Chairman of the Management Board of JSC «NC "KAZAKH INVEST», Chairman of the Management Board of JSC «NC «Kazakh Tourism», Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC «Baiterek» and heads of such large companies as «BI Group», «Agro Holding Dinara Group», LLP «Olzha Agro», «Target AI», «Evotech CA», etc.

During the visit, the Kazakh delegation also met with Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdurahman Al-Thani, Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaie, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Ali Al-Kuwari, as well as with the head of Qatar Airways, Akbar Al-Baker, the Qatar Businessmen Association, the heads of the national investment fund «Qatar Investment Authority» and the national company «Hassad Food», «Qatari Diar», «Qatar Mining», «Al Fardan Group», and «Baladna».

During the meetings, the Qatari side was presented with specific investment projects in the mining and metallurgical industry, agriculture, the banking sector and tourism, as well as the priority areas of trade, economic and investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and Qatar were discussed in detail.

Also, A.Smailov took part in the first meeting of the Kazakh-Qatari Business Council, organized by Samruk-Kazyna together with the Qatar Chamber of Commerce.

In his opening speech, A. Smailov noted the great potential for the development of bilateral cooperation in trade, economic and investment spheres, stressed the importance of active involvement of the private sector in deepening and expanding interstate relations between Kazakhstan and Qatar.

During the event, the heads of a number of Kazakh national companies and large enterprises of Kazakhstan presented to the attention of Qatari business the economic opportunities created in our country for foreign investors.

This visit was organized in preparation for the state visit of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to Nur-Sultan, scheduled for this year, during which it is planned to sign important bilateral documents aimed at further strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
