Scientific circles of Kazakhstan and Qatar will cooperate in the field of food security

In the period from 11 to 15 July, the Rector of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences T.Espolov paid a working visit to the State of Qatar.

During the visit, the Kazakh academician met with Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmad Hassan Al-Hamadi, Minister of Municipality and Environmental Protection Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaye and Deputy Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development Ali Al-Dabbah, Chairman of the national company «Hassad Food» Mohammad Badr Al-Sada, Executive Director of the Qatar Investment Promotion Agency Sheikh Ali Al-Walid Al-Thani, Executive Director of the «Global Dryland Alliance» Bader Omar Al-Dafa, Acting President of the University of Qatar, and also got acquainted with the largest livestock farm and dairy producer in Qatar - the company «Baladna».

During negotiations with the Qatari side, T.Espolov spoke about the possibilities of mutually beneficial cooperation between Kazakhstan and Qatar in the agricultural sector. He spoke about the production capacities of the agricultural sector in Kazakhstan, about the quality, competitiveness, demand and environmental friendliness of domestic products. In addition, he raised topical issues of food and water security in the world and the need to use a scientific approach in solving these problems.

For his part, the Rector of KNAU announced his readiness to organize cooperation between the scientific circles of Kazakhstan and Qatar in solving these problems. He presented the research capabilities of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basis of his university and conveyed information about ongoing international projects to the Qatari side.

He separately emphasized the need to train a new generation of agricultural scientists to ensure food security. Rector of the University of Qatar, a memorandum of cooperation between the two universities. The parties agreed to sign this memorandum during the visit of the Emir of Qatar to Kazakhstan.
