The opening of direct flights between Kazakhstan and Qatar will give rise to a new stage of cooperation

January 20 of this year  Ambassador A. Isagaliyev met with the Head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation Abdullah bin Nasser Turki Al-Subai.

During the meeting, parties discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, the main of which was the opening of direct flights between Kazakhstan and Qatar.  The diplomat stressed that Kazakhstan is eagerly awaiting the launch of direct flights, which will allow our citizens to travel to 160 destinations of Qatar Airways.  In addition, this step will give a significant impetus to the development of trade, economic and investment cooperation, business ties, and will also increase the tourist flow.

 A. Al-Subai noted that the launch of direct flights to Kazakhstan is one of the priority tasks of the Qatari national air carrier.  According to the head of civil aviation, Qatar Airways has not stopped flights for a single day during the coronavirus pandemic, helping people around the world to get home.  At the same time, like all airlines in the world, the Qatari carrier experienced serious difficulties due to the widespread introduction of lockdowns and the closure of borders.  Currently, Qatar Airways is gradually restoring its flight network and in the near future new destinations will be considered, including Kazakhstan.

For reference: On November 7-8, 2019 in Doha, the aviation authorities of the two countries signed a Memorandum on the implementation by Qatar Airways of regular 7 flights a week between Nur-Sultan and Doha, and 7 flights a week between Almaty and Doha, as well as  7 cargo flights a week between Doha and two Kazakhstani aviation harbors, with the fifth degree of "air freedom" within the framework of the "open skies" regime introduced in Kazakhstan.

The airline's first inaugural flight was to take place in March 2020.  However, due to the outbreak of a global pandemic, it was postponed.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways currently operates cargo flights to Kazakhstan, which in 2020 allowed to increase the trade turnover between the two countries by 4 times.
