Cairo, September 18, 2024 - Ambassador of Kazakhstan Kairat Lama Sharif held a meeting in the New Administrative Capital with the newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Health, Population and Human Development of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Khaled Atef Abdel-Ghaffar Mohammed, during which he conveyed official congratulations on behalf of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akmaral Alnazarova.
The parties discussed issues of enhancing bilateral cooperation, attracting investment in the healthcare sector, exchanging experiences and increasing the potential of human resources. The Kazakh diplomat informed his interlocutor about the main provisions of the annual Address of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the people "Fair Kazakhstan: law and order, economic growth, public optimism" and the new tasks of the political and socio-economic development of the Republic of Kazakhstan set by the Head of State.
Ambassador Kairat Lama Sharif noted that the Government of Kazakhstan places great emphasis on localizing the production of innovative drugs in order to increase the added value of the product portfolio of Kazakhstani manufacturers, technological re-equipment of the industry and the development of R&D centers for their own developments. In this context, the investment project of the Egyptian pharmaceutical company Egyptian International Pharmaceuticals Industries Company (EIPICO) to build a full-cycle biopharmaceutical plant in the Karaganda region, which will be the first full-cycle production in Kazakhstan, was especially noted. It is expected that biosimilars (analogs of drugs) and antitumor drugs will be produced there. At a meeting on September 16, 2024 with the Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Alnazarova, the head of EIPICO Ahmad Kilani confirmed his readiness to invest about 33 million US dollars in the construction of the plant. In turn, Dr. Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar Mohammed expressed confidence in the success of the joint initiatives and agreements being implemented.
For reference: EIPICO was founded in 1980 and is currently Egypt's largest pharmaceutical manufacturer with a range of 276 drugs in 25 therapeutic groups. The company's products account for 21% of the country's total pharmaceutical exports. EIPICO is 50% owned by the pan-Arab firm "Arab Company for Drug Industries and Medical Appliances (ACDIMA)", which was established in 1976 in accordance with the resolution of the Council of Arab Economic Unity (analogous to the Eurasian Economic Commission).
