Meeting of the CICA Executive Director H.E. Mr. Kairat Sarybay with Egyptian Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Sameh Shoukry
On June 29th, 2021, the Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Kairat Sarybai held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Sameh Shoukry.
Before the start of the meeting, the Ambassador, H.E. Kairat Lama Sharif handed the Head of the Arab Republic of Egypt Foreign Ministry an invitation on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs M. Tleuberdi to take part in the 6th Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the CICA member states, which will be held from 11th to 12th of October, 2021 in Nur-Sultan, which was accepted with gratitude.
The Minister H.E. Mr. Sameh Shoukry emphasized that the idea of holding a Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, proposed in 1992 at the UN General Assembly by the First President of Kazakhstan, H.E. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, laid the foundation for the formation of a new format of cooperation in the region. He noted with satisfaction the effectiveness of Kazakhstan's work as the chairing country of the CICA for the period 2020 - 2022. In this context, he noted the importance of further strengthening partnership among the participating states in 5 main clusters included in the Catalog of Confidence Building Measures - the military-political sphere, the fight against new threats and challenges, interaction in the economic, environmental and humanitarian dimensions.
In turn, H.E. Mr. Kairat Sarybai emphasized that today the CICA is a recognizable and authoritative forum, the activities of which are of keen interest in many countries. This allowed the Forum to achieve serious progress in many key areas of partnership - political, economic, humanitarian. Therefore, the participation of Egypt, which stood at the origins of the CICA, in the October Summit of Foreign Ministers is of great importance in the search for ways to maintain stability and prosperity in the Asian region.
Special attention was paid to the development of cooperation between the CICA and the African Union. The parties mutually confirmed their interest in such a dialogue and expressed their intention to hold such an event, timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Egypt, which will be celebrated in March next year.
In conclusion, the parties confirmed their readiness for further development of multifaceted cooperation between the CICA and Egypt, the schedule and organizational issues of upcoming joint events.
