80th anniversary of the birth of István Kongur Mándoky: Kazakhstan honored the memory of the famous Hungarian Turkicologist

Budapest, February 7, 2024 - Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary Zhanibek Abdrashov took part in an international conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of the famous Hungarian scientist, Turkicologist István Kongur Mándoky, which was held at the Kazakh National University of Al-Farabi in Almaty.

The conference «The Golden Bridge of East and West in Turkology - Kongur Mándoky!» is organized by Kazakh National University of Al-Farabi in cooperation with the Centre for the Rapprochement of International Cultures within UNESCO.

The event's purpose is to study the famous scientist's life path and spiritual heritage, to promote scientific works, to reconsider István Kongur Mándoky's works from a new perspective, to conduct scientific research, and to discuss current Turkology issues.

The conference of mixed format (online and offline) was opened by Rector Zhanseit Tuimebayev. Welcome speeches in the event were made by the Director of the International Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures, public figure of Kazakhstan, national writer, poet Olzhas Suleimenov; poet-writer, Chairman of the Union of Writers of Turkic States under TURKSOY Ulugbek Yesdaulet; deputy of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan Darhan Kydyrali; Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary Zhanibek Abdrashov; Chargé d'affaires of the Consulate General of Hungary in Kazakhstan Péter Siklós, as well as prominent scientists, Turkologists, cultural figures and artists of Kazakhstan, Hungary, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan.
