Varga, President of the Curia of Hungary (Supreme Court), Mr. Aslambek Mergaliyev, President of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan, paid an official visit to Budapest to study Hungary’s judicial system. During the bilateral meeting, the Presidents of the Supreme Courts underlined the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the judicial bodies, exchanged information about the structure and activities of the courts, and discussed ongoing judicial reforms in both countries.

As part of the visit, the Kazakh delegation familiarized itself with the Curia’s experience in ensuring the uniformity of judicial practice.

In the Hungarian judicial system, great emphasis is placed on the adoption of decisions that shape legal positions and promote the consistent application of law by the courts.

This experience is of practical value for further improving similar mechanisms within Kazakhstan’s judiciary.

He highlighted measures aimed at improving the quality of justice, enhancing cassation review, strengthening judicial independence, and advancing digitalization in court proceedings.

The President noted that more than half of administrative cases in Kazakhstan are decided in favor of citizens, which demonstrates the effectiveness of judicial protection of their rights and legitimate interests.

The address by the President of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan drew great interest and received positive feedback from Hungarian colleagues, emphasizing the mutual commitment of both sides to developing professional dialogue and exchanging experience.

Within the framework of the visit, the delegation was introduced to the activities of the Budapest Regional Court of Appeal and the Hungarian Academy of Justice, where the Kazakh side was shown the specific features of judicial organization and training in Hungary.

The hosting side also arranged a meeting with Mr. Bálint Nagy, Prosecutor General of Hungary.

During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on approaches to upholding the rule of law and on cooperation between the courts and prosecution authorities in protecting citizens’ rights and strengthening public trust in justice.

At the conclusion of the visit, both sides noted the importance of maintaining active dialogue between the judicial institutions of the two countries and expressed readiness to further develop cooperation.
