On February 26, 2025 the Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas (KMG) Askhat Khassenov met with the Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolacu in Bucharest.

The parties confirmed the importance of strengthening Kazakh-Romanian economic cooperation, taking into account the activities of KMG's subsidiary organization KMG International N.V. (Rompetrol) in Romania. KMGI is one of the top five taxpayers and is also one of the largest employers.

Overall, despite the current challenges in the international energy market, Kazakhstan remains a reliable partner and a key producer of oil products in Romania, contributing to energy security.

Over the years, the refining capacity has been increased to 5.5 million tons of oil per year.

The refinery is one of the most modern in the region with the yield of light oil products at the level of 88%, - said A. Khassenov.
