Brasilia, February 25, 2025 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Brazil Bolat Nussupov visited the Representative Office of the State of Amazonas to the Federal Government of Brazil and met with its head, Secretary Ms. Inês Carolina Simonetti.
The agenda of the talks included issues of expanding regional cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Brazilian state in the fields of economy, trade, ecology, mining and scientific research. Particular interest were the possibilities of supplying tropical products from the state to Kazakhstan, as well as exchanging experience in the field of natural resource extraction, technology and the implementation of environmental standards and norms in this area.
The Brazilian side acquainted the Ambassador with the infrastructure and environmental programs being implemented in the state to protect and maintain the flora and fauna of the Amazon, as well as socio-economic support for the population of the region. These aspects are of particular interest in light of the international climate conference «COP30» being held in Brazil this year.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the possibilities of establishing cooperation in agriculture, mining, tourism and mutual trade based on the Manaus Free Economic Zone. In this regard, the Brazilian side invited the Ambassador to make a working visit to the state capital of Manaus this year to inspect the FEZ and discuss cooperation issues.
Given the federal structure of Brazil, regional cooperation is an important element in strengthening bilateral relations. Currently, partnerships between the regions of Kazakhstan and Brazil have been established between the Karaganda region and the state of Bahia (2021), the Almaty region and the state of Rio Grande do Sul (2024). At this stage, the possibility of establishing a regional partnership is also being considered between the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina and one of the regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
