Brasilia, May 23, 2023 – The annual second Parliamentary Evening was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Federative Republic of Brazil with the participation of members of the Kazakhstan–Brazil friendship groups in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Brazilian Parliament.
In his welcoming address, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Bolat Nussupov, briefed the parliamentarians on the results of the parliamentary elections to the Senate and Mazhilis, stressing that they have become a landmark event for Kazakhstan and the final stage of a comprehensive reboot of key state institutions. The Ambassador also noted that the political transformations carried out in recent years and the targeted liberalization of the electoral legislation have given a powerful impetus to the party building of Kazakhstan.
In turn, in their speeches, Senator Chico Rodrigues and Deputy Cláudio Cajado (heads of friendship groups of both houses of Parliament) supported the ongoing reforms in Kazakhstan, expressed readiness to expand inter-parliamentary cooperation and support in the implementation of bilateral projects in trade, economic, cultural, scientific and educational spheres.
In their opinion, the development of inter-parliamentary dialogue is one of the priorities for strengthening relations between the two countries. In this regard, it seems timely to organize the next meeting of friendship groups of the Parliaments of the two countries this year in Astana in person, after the approval of new compositions of similar groups in the Mazhilis and the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the subsequent informal communication, the parties exchanged views on topical issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda, as well as discussed further prospects for the development of an expanded partnership between Kazakhstan and Brazil in the main areas of international politics and security issues.
This year, Kazakhstan and Brazil celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. On this occasion, during the event, the leaders of the friendship groups were awarded jubilee letters of thanks from the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Brazil.
