South America shows interest in Kazakhstan

Brasilia, February 23, 2023 – in order to present Kazakhstan's investment and trade opportunities for the South American region and discuss ways of cooperation, the Embassy of Kazakhstan hosted the second annual Round table with the participation of the heads of diplomatic missions of Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Ecuador, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil. These meetings are one of the important channels of communication and interaction between our countries.

During the event, the participants were acquainted with the current development of Kazakhstan, including the electoral process, the prospects for economic cooperation with the countries of the region in the field of mining, instrumentation, agriculture and trade. In this context, investment intentions in Kazakhstan of such companies of the region as WEG (Brazil) and ME Elecmetal (Chile) named as a positive example.

During the meeting, for South American diplomats were presented in detail the trade, economic, transit, transport and investment potential of Kazakhstan, as well as the possibilities of Kazakhstani exports. The representative of NC «Kazakh Invest» Galymzhan Mataev spoke in particular about the priorities of the investment policy, measures taken by the state to improve the investment climate and new support tools for potential investors.

The agenda of the meeting also included issues of expanding cultural, humanitarian and academic exchanges. In particular, training opportunities for Kazakhstani specialists with a professional focus on the South American region and knowledge of Portuguese and Spanish. In terms of an example of successful cultural cooperation, the opening of online courses of the Kazakh language and the study of Kazakhstan at the Center for Asian Studies of the Federal University of Fluminense (Rio de Janeiro), as well as the creation of the Friendship Forums «Kazakhstan – Brazil» and «Kazakhstan – Chile» were named last year. In addition, the expediency of establishing twinning city relations between the regions of Kazakhstan and the countries of South America were noted. At present twinning cities of Almaty-Rosario (Argentina), as well as the Brazilian state of Bahia with the Karaganda region of Kazakhstan have been established.

In turn, the heads of the diplomatic missions of the countries of South America showed great interest in the political processes in our country, highly appreciating the economic potential of Kazakhstan. The participants of the round table confirmed their readiness to intensify bilateral cooperation, as well as provide the necessary assistance to this. The parties noted the importance of achieving concrete results in light of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay this year.
