Kazakh Ambassador Meets Apostolic Nuncius - Doyen of the Diplomatic Corps in Slovakia

BRATISLAVA, February 10, 2020 - Kazakh Ambassador Roman Vasilenko paid a courtesy call to the Apostolic Nuncio, the duayen of the diplomatic corps in Slovakia, Giacomo Ottonello.

During the conversation, which took place in a good and trusting atmosphere, the interlocutors noted the fruitful development of relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Vatican since their establishment in 1992. The great importance of the visits to the Vatican of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev and the then Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, was noted, as was the visit to the capital of Kazakhstan in 2001 by Pope John Paul II.

The interlocutors emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to establish inter-religious dialogue and mutual understanding at the international level, noting the significant contribution to this process of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions held in Kazakhstan, in which the high delegation of the Roman Catholic Church traditionally takes part.

During the meeting, the Kazakh diplomat also noted the importance of the principled position of the Vatican and Pope Francis I personally about the need to build a world free of nuclear weapons, which is fully consistent with the consistent strategic course of Elbasy and President K. Tokayev.

During the conversation, R. Vasilenko and J. Ottonello agreed on further close cooperation between the two missions in Bratislava and mutual support of the initiatives.
