Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Germany Presents State Award to Former Co-Chair of Kazakh-German Business Council

BERLIN, 4 September 2020 – Today, acting on the instructions of the Head of State, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Germany, Dauren Karipov, presented the Order of Dostyk (Friendship) of the 1^st degree to Peter Tils, the former Co-Chair of the Kazakh-German Business Council (KGBC) and previously Deutsche Bank CEO.

The award ceremony took place in the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Berlin with the participation of Chief Executive of Foreign Trade and Member of the Executive Board of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce, Dr. Volker Treier, Member of the Board of Deutsche Bank Joerg Bongartz, Director-General for External Economic Policy of the German Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy, Dr. Eckhard Franz, Head of Division for South Caucasus and Central Asia at the Federal Foreign Ministry, Anke Konrad, DB Engineering & Consulting Chair Niko Warbanoff, who earlier this year succeeded P.Tils as KGBC Co-chair, as well as other representatives of Germany’s public, political and business circles.

Ambassador Karipov presented P.Tils with the honorary state award and remarked" “Having co-chaired the Kazakh-German Business Council for over 9 years, Mr. Tils has provided assistance in every possible way in the implementation of joint projects in various spheres of the economy, helping establish contacts between business representatives”.

P.Tils expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan’s leadership for its recognition of his work, and emphasized the existence of great potential for further developing and diversifying bilateral relations.

Peter Tils is an experienced banker with over 40 years of experience in finance. Since 1977, he has held various senior positions at Deutsche Bank AG and headed the bank's regional offices in Europe and Central America. From 2007 to 2019, owing to his high level of professionalism and work experience, he served as a member of the Foreign Investors’ Council under the President of Kazakhstan.

For reference: The Order of Dostyk is the highest state award of the Republic of Kazakhstan, presented to foreign citizens for their contribution to the strengthening of peace, friendship and cooperation between nations. The corresponding decree on awarding Peter Tils was signed by the President of Kazakhstan on 4 April 2020.
