Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Germany Dauren Karipov Meets with MEP Niklas Nienass

ROSTOCK, 25 June 2020 – The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Germany, Dauren Karipov, has held a meeting with Member of the European Parliament, Member of the EU-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee, Niklas Nienass (Alliance90/The Greens).

During the meeting, the Kazakh diplomat briefed the MEP on our country’s reform process to facilitate democratization, improvement of the social welfare of citizens, human rights and economic modernization. He also spoke of the main priorities of Kazakhstan’s multi-vector foreign policy aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation, including with key partners such as Germany.

MEP Nienass noted the positive changes being brought about in Kazakhstan as a result of political developments and economic reforms, and underscored Central Asia’s growing importance within the context of Germany’s and the EU’s foreign policy priorities.

Ambassador Karipov remarked that the December 2019 official visit of Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Germany gave a new impetus to the continued strengthening of Kazakh-German cooperation. He also spoke of the exclusive conditions and preferences being offered to German investors in Kazakhstan. This is a key aspect of the Governmental Working Group headed by Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar, which is responsible for fast-tracking legal procedures standing in the way of joint investment projects.

The Kazakh diplomat also emphasized the role of the “living bridge” represented by 180 thousand ethnic Germans living in Kazakhstan, as well as 900 thousand former Kazakh citizens residing in Germany, in bolstering Kazakh-German diplomatic and investment relations.

At the conclusion of the meeting the parties agreed to continue their dialogue within the interparliamentary cooperation framework.
