Berlin, 12 April 2024. On the occasion of Kanysh Satpayev's 125th Anniversary, a discussion was held in Berlin on the state and prospects for the development of economic relations between the two countries in the raw materials, technological and industrial spheres.

The event "Kazakh-German Resource Cooperation – opinions from German politics, economics and science" was attended by about 100 representatives of German government agencies, scientific and expert circles, business associations, companies and the media.

In particular, Bundestag deputy Manfred Grund, Head of the Department for Resource Policy, Raw Material Efficiency and Circular Economy of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Susanne Szech-Koundouros , Rector of the Technical University "Freiberg Mining Academy" Dr. Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht spoke at the opening of the event.

The podium discussion was attended by Dr. Peter Buchholz, Head of the German Resources Agency (DERA), Prof. Manfred Grundke, member of the presidium of the Eastern Committee of the German Economy, Dr. Martin Wedig, Managing director of the Association for Foreign Mining and International Raw Materials Activities (FAB), and Dennis Schwindt, CEO of HMS Bergbau AG.

The panelists highlighted the significant opportunities for further expansion of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation under the "raw materials in exchange for technology" formula.

All the necessary prerequisites and favorable framework conditions are in place.
Kazakhstan is not only a long-standing reliable partner in ensuring Germany's energy and raw materials security, but also has significant reserves for further expansion of supplies in order to diversify the supply and production chains of the German economy.

In turn, Germany is actively involved in the industrialization and strengthening of Kazakhstan's industrial potential. More than 90% of German investments are directed to the processing sector.

Experts have recognized the objective complementarity of the economies of the two countries. This causes further rapprochement and strengthening of business ties, which is reflected in the dynamic growth of trade turnover and investment. According to German statistics, in 2022, the volume of bilateral trade will almost reach the milestone of 10 billion euros.

The volume of German investments in 2023, according to Kazakh data, also showed record figures of 770 million US dollars.

During the dialogue, the participants of the event considered a number of concrete ideas and proposals for further deepening of cooperation.

Following the discussions, the interest of the German side in the implementation of new projects in the industrial, technological and raw materials sectors in Kazakhstan was confirmed.

This event was organized by the Kazakh Embassy in Berlin together with the Eastern Committee of the German Economy, the Technical University "Freiberg Mining Academy" and the Representative Office of the Federal State of Saxony.
