BERLIN, 9 April 2021 – Today the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Berlin has hosted a meeting between the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Germany, Dauren Karipov, and German Members of the European Parliament Viola von Cramon-Taubadel and Niklas Nienass (Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance).
During the talks, the Kazakh diplomat conveyed to the MEPs the latest information on the democratic transformations taking place in Kazakhstan within the framework of three institutional reform packages initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan. The discussions centered on the maturity of Kazakhstan’s political culture and protection of human rights in the context of last year’s approval of a Concept for the Development of Civil Society until 2025, as well as the activities of the consultative and advisory body "Dialogue Platform for Human Dimension" under the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan.
In turn, the MEPs spoke in favor of expanding constructive dialogue with Kazakhstan aimed at exchanging experience and best practices on the protection of rights and freedoms based on international and European legal standards. The parties also discussed the prospects for overcoming the coronavirus pandemic and the priority of maintaining decarbonization goals and "green" development in matters of post-crisis economic recovery.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the interlocutors agreed on the importance of further intensifying Kazakh-European dialogue in the inter-parliamentary format.
For reference: The Concept for the Development of Civil Society in Kazakhstan until 2025 was approved by Presidential Decree No. 390 of 27 August 2020. The Concept provides for the creation of mechanisms to promote our country’s political transformation and modernization, strengthen partnerships between the government, business and civil society, as well as increase the stability of Kazakhstan’s civil society.
The consultative and advisory body "Dialogue Platform for Human Dimension" has been operating under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan since 2013 with the aim of ensuring effective interaction between Kazakhstan’s government and civil society with the involvement of local and international non-governmental organizations.
