On August 30, Kazakhstan celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Constitution Day

The first constitution, which Kazakhstan adopted as a sovereign state, dates back to 1993. According to this document, Kazakhstan was declared a parliamentary republic led by the president. Kazakh was declared the state language. The provisions of the first constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan caused a lot of controversy in society and in the expert environment, and in this regard, the current Constitution of 1995 received an excellent platform for discussing and developing a basic document that suits everyone, which determined the direction of the country's development for the coming decades.

On August 30, 1995, the current Constitution of Kazakhstan was adopted at a national referendum.

The adoption of this document was preceded by more than 30 thousand collective discussions of the project, in which more than 3 million citizens took part.

Kazakhstan has come a very long way to gaining independence, and those constitutions that have been in effect on its territory over the past hundred years are some kind of indicators showing the degree of development and independence of the state. Each stage in the development of the country was documented in the text of the constitution. Figuratively speaking, this is the very skeleton on which all other systems of a single and unique organism "Kazakhstan" are then attached.

Therefore, it would be wrong to understand the constitution only as a legal document. The Constitution forms the spirit of a united Kazakhstani nation, determines the path of development of the people and the positioning of the country in international affairs.

However, if we go to a more specific language, the meaning of the Constitution for modern Kazakhstan is as follows.

First, the Constitution, which proclaimed Kazakhstan "a democratic, secular and unitary state", thus consolidated the foundations of the state system. And from now on there can be no other way - without the will of the people.

Secondly, the Constitution determined the basic rights and obligations of Kazakhstanis, and no one can challenge them from now on, just as no law that contradicts the Constitution can be adopted. Thus, Article 1 reads: “Citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan are guaranteed equality of rights and freedoms regardless of race, nationality, sex, language, social, property and official status, social origin, place of residence, attitude to religion, beliefs, membership in a public association, and also incurred earlier criminal punishment. Any form of discrimination against citizens is prohibited.

Thirdly, the Constitution is the political program of our state. It shows how Kazakhstan sees itself in the world, which way it intends to develop, what landmarks it has designated for itself and how it is going to go towards them.

Fourthly, the Constitution defines the ideology of the country, in other words, the values, principles of relations in society, relations between people and authorities, which now exist in Kazakhstan.

Fifthly, the economic development of the Republic of Kazakhstan is also based on the Constitution, because property rights, labor relations, social guarantees are all also based on the Constitution.

The Constitution of Kazakhstan gave us the country in which its citizens dreamed of living. For the first time in the history of independence. Dreams have taken a form, a system, have undergone certain changes, but the most important thing is one thing. The Constitution is the guardian that protects Kazakhstan, not allowing a single step to deviate from the principles important for the people, independence and stable development.
