On March 29, 2022, the Solemn meeting of the IPA CIS Council dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly was held in the House of Friendship in Almaty.

The heads of the delegations voiced the greetings of the heads of state to the participants of the Solemn meeting of the IPA CIS Council. It was noted that the Assembly occupies a worthy place among the inter-parliamentary organizations of the world and makes an important contribution to strengthening interaction, friendship and trust among the peoples of the Commonwealth countries.

Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Ilkhom Nematov, on behalf of the CIS Executive Committee, congratulated the audience on a significant date.

“The city of Almaty is truly historical for our Commonwealth. It was here that on December 21, 1991, the Alma-Ata Declaration on the establishment of the Commonwealth of Independent States was signed with the participation of most of the republics of the former Union.

The signing 30 years ago on March 27, 1992 in the same city of the Agreement on the establishment of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS became an important event in the political life of all the states of the Commonwealth. The agreement created a solid legal basis for the further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation within the framework of the CIS on the principles of equality and consideration of mutual interests,” I. Nematov noted.

Following the discussion, the IPA CIS Council adopted a statement “On the 30th Anniversary of the Interparliamentary Assembly of States Members of the Commonwealth of Independent States”. The document confirms the commitment to the further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation and strengthening the legal foundations for mutually beneficial relations between the CIS countries.
