Round table on CICA with support of MFA office in Almaty

On October 5, 2022, a round table on topic "The role of CICA in modern international relations" was held at the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with the support of Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty. The large-scale event was held as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-building Measures in Asia (CICA). Recall that the idea of creating confidence-building mechanisms on the Asian continent was first announced in 1992. Since then CICA has made a significant contribution to strengthening the architecture of Asian security. Prominent domestic diplomats have made a huge contribution to the formation and development of the CICA. Today in the light of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the CICA - transformation of the Meeting into a regional organization remains as an important issue and the expert support of the CICA activities, strengthening the capacity of the CICA analytical centers by transforming them into a permanent dialogue platform is considered an urgent area of interaction between the participating countries.

Participants of the round table discussed the problems and prospects of developing a system of confidence-building measures on the Asian continent in the context of the erosion of security mechanisms, trade and sanctions wars, ensuring constructive negotiations on controversial issues and resolving contradictions at the very initial stage of their occurrence, the need to develop joint systemic approaches to countering terrorism and mechanisms for anticipating threats on the territory of the CICA countries, the possibility of developing additional incentives to give impetus to the economic growth of the participating States of the meeting, issues of improving international law in the context of new threats and risks.

At the opening ceremony of the round table, the Representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in Kazakhstan - Vlastimil Samek, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Almaty - Jiang Wei, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Almaty Mohsen Fagani, Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Almaty  Fatkhullaev Abror made congratulatory speeches. They highlighted the need and importance of such dialogue platforms for peaceful resolution of interstate, regional and international problems.

The Consul General of the Republic of Tajikistan in Almaty Ravshan Bobokhonzoda, Consul of India in Almaty Amit Kumar Mishra, Consul of the Consulate General of Kyrgyzstan in Almaty  Zhumashbek Asanbekov, Vice Consul of the Republic of Turkey in Almaty Shermin Tekin also took part as guests and active discoursers.

In addition, event became a meeting place for well-known experts and representatives of the academic community, Asian country scientists. Among them,  Bulat Sultanov,  Kuralai Bayzakova, Mara Gubaidullina,  Bolat Auelbayev, Malik Augan,  Rustem Kurmanguzhin, Akmaral Batalova and  Munira Artykbekovamade their reports.

Following the results of the round table, a resolution was adopted.
