Nairobi, February 22, 2024 – Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Ethiopia and Kenya (concurrently), Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the African Union, to the UN Office in Nairobi Barlybay Sadykov met with the Director of Europe and Commonwealth Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Ambassador Rose Makena Muchiri and Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Ambassador Peter Mwendwa.

The parties discussed topical issues on the bilateral agenda. The parties paid special attention to plans for the development of cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, upcoming bilateral visits at the highest and high levels, the formation of a bilateral legal framework, as well as the prospects for cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

The parties elaborated on the implementation of the agreements reached by the heads of state during their meeting on September 20, 2023 in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Recall that during the meeting in New York, the President of Kazakhstan proposed to send a trade mission to Kenya to study potential opportunities for strengthening cooperation.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation on issues of mutual interest.

For reference: Kenya is Kazakhstan's fourth trading partner in Africa with a trade turnover of $40 million, and is of interest as the Eastern "sea gateway" to Africa.

Kenya is also home to the United Nations Environment Programme and UN-Habitat.
