According to the new rules, the president must propose at least two candidates for the position of akim of the region. Deputies of maslikhats of all levels choose one of them. Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov and Head of the Presidential Administration Murat Nurtleu read to the deputies a letter from the Head of State on the introduction of two candidates for the post of akim of the region – Akhmetov Danial Kenzhetaevich and Kurmambayev Renat Tleukhanovich. Of the 117 deputies who voted, 94 voted for Danial Akhmetov, 23 for Renat Kurmambayev.
