On religious and other holidays during the spread of COVID-19

The Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan receives letters from the leaders of religious and ethnocultural associations regarding the celebration of religious and other holidays, such as Passover, Easter, Parent's Day, Oraza and others.

There is no doubt that these holidays are of great sacred significance. We deeply respect the spiritual and religious feelings and traditions of our citizens, understanding how important these days are in the lives of many of us.

However, the pandemic of a dangerous viral disease, which has spread to almost all the countries of the world, poses a serious threat to the health and life of all without exception. Most states have adopted unprecedented anti-epidemic measures of strict quarantine and isolation of people. All collective events, including religious ones, have been limited.

In order to combat the viral infection and prevent its spread, a state of emergency is in effect in our country, and quarantine has been declared in many cities. This is dictated by, first of all, the need to protect our citizens from the disease, to preserve their health and lives.

Religious and spiritual tradition, as well as the practice of the upcoming holidays, include worship in churches, religious processions, consecration of festive meals, meetings with relatives and friends, memorial rituals and visits to burial places. In addition, these holidays are traditionally accompanied by a variety of cultural events.

However, in this situation, safety, life, and people's health come to the fore. In this regard, we ask the leaders of religious and ethnocultural associations and all citizens to be understanding and strictly observe the quarantine regime during the holidays. Religious organizations can conduct holiday services online through modern means of communication.

Congratulating everyone on the upcoming holidays, we wish all Kazakhstanis health and well-being. Take care of yourself.
