Today, on July 21, the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a meeting of the Working Group on the preparation of the Eighth to Tenth Consolidated Periodic Report on the Implementation by the Republic of Kazakhstan of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
Members of the Working Group, representatives of interested public authorities and organizations, as well as a representative of the UNDP in Kazakhstan attended the meeting. It should be noted that due to the pandemic, Kazakhstan's report to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination has been postponed and is scheduled for early 2022 in Geneva. During the event, the head of the Working Group - Vice-Minister of Information and Social Development Serik Egizbayev encouraged the participants of the meeting to re-discuss the comments of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination to the Report.
«Most of the recommendations of the UN Committee were implemented by Kazakhstan. At the same time, there are recommendations that require careful study, for example, such as the creation of a separate anti-discrimination legislation in the country. The issue needed further joint study, including through the prism of the experience in different countries», S. Egizbayev said. In addition, the invited National Expert of the UNDP in Kazakhstan reported the ongoing work to remove the concluding comments of the UN Committee with interested public authorities and organizations. It should be reminded Kazakhstan ratified the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in 1998.
As part of the implementation of the Convention's rules, the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved the decree of the Eighth to Tenth Consolidated Periodic Report on the Implementation by the Republic of Kazakhstan of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
The report was prepared by the Interdepartmental Working Group under the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the participation of all interested public authorities and contains information on the implementation of the articles of the Convention by Kazakhstan during the reporting period from 2014 to 2017.
