State and Business Develop Kazakhstan's Cryptography Market

An expert meeting dedicated to the future of the cryptographic information protection market was held at the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development.

Chaired by Deputy Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Doszhan Mussaliyev, the meeting brought together representatives of the relevant Committee on Information Security, interested government agencies, and leading IT companies and industry experts.

In the course of discussions, participants agreed that cryptography has long since ceased to be merely a technical tool "for official use" and has become the invisible yet solid foundation of the entire digital economy. Every day it protects bank transfers, electronic documents, digital signatures, and the personal data of millions of Kazakhstanis.

As data volumes grow, the question of reliable protection is becoming equally critical for both the state and business. Participants discussed in detail the fact that the security of digital systems depends not only on the complexity of encryption algorithms themselves. Practical matters are coming to the fore: how well digital keys are managed, whether programmes are configured correctly, how certification is conducted, and whether basic cybersecurity hygiene is maintained at every stage.

A separate topic for discussion was support for domestic developments. Experts spoke about how to incentivise the creation of strong Kazakhstani IT products in the field of encryption in order to reduce import dependency, strengthen trust in government systems, and prepare for tomorrow's challenges - including the transition to post-quantum cryptography. The Ministry emphasised that precisely this kind of open and direct dialogue between the ministry, business, and the professional community helps create a fair and competitive environment.

As Deputy Minister Doszhan Mussaliyev noted, cryptography today is not merely a line item in a security checklist - it is a matter of digital sovereignty and citizens' trust in government services. The aim is to ensure that domestic solutions are not only reliable but also competitive. The goal is to create conditions in which Kazakhstani businesses can actively develop and implement their own cryptographic products, securing the infrastructure for years to come and ensuring readiness for the era of quantum technologies.

At the close of the meeting, it was noted that the ministry will continue this systematic work, improving data protection approaches and supporting solutions that make digital Kazakhstan safe and accessible for everyone.
