Central Asia's First TUMO Creative Technology Centre Opens in Astana

The TUMO Astana Centre for Creative and Digital Technologies — the first project of the international TUMO network in Central Asia — was ceremonially inaugurated in Astana. The Centre is located within the alem.ai International Artificial Intelligence Centre and will serve as a key platform for developing digital and creative skills among teenagers.

The opening ceremony, held during President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's visit to alem.ai, was attended by government representatives, international partners, and industry leaders. The event formed part of the initiatives being implemented within the Year of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence in Kazakhstan.

"Artificial intelligence is becoming a key priority in Kazakhstan's technological development, making the early cultivation of digital skills among young people especially important. TUMO Astana implements a smart approach that goes beyond simply teaching — it actively engages children and fosters a lasting curiosity for knowledge. Every child's potential is boundless, and TUMO Astana has created a unique environment that sustains this interest and motivates teenagers to seek solutions and develop the skills of the future. The opening of the Centre in Astana is an important step in the development of human capital and Kazakhstan's integration into the global educational community. In the near future, we plan to launch branches in Almaty, Aktobe, and the Akmola Region, as well as the TUMO Classroom format in regional areas, to ensure equal access to modern educational opportunities for teenagers across the country," added Astana Hub CEO Magzhan Madiyev.

TUMO Astana provides free education for teenagers aged 12 to 18, with no entry requirements and training from scratch. The Centre's educational programme is based on the international TUMO model and is aimed at shaping a new generation of technology leaders for Kazakhstan. The project is implemented by the non-profit corporate foundation Alem.ai Foundation under the management of Astana Hub and the Ministry of AI and Digital Development of Kazakhstan.

"We are delighted to introduce the innovative TUMO educational model to Kazakhstan, opening our first centre in Central Asia. This partnership with Astana Hub is an important milestone in the realisation of our global mission — to equip teenagers with the digital and creative skills needed for the world of tomorrow. TUMO Astana will give local young people access to a world-class educational programme that has already transformed the lives of more than 100,000 students worldwide. Kazakhstan's forward-thinking approach to digital education aligns with TUMO's vision, and we look forward to becoming an integral part of the country's innovative educational ecosystem," noted TUMO Director of Development Pegor Papazian.

The Centre has the capacity to train up to 5,000 students annually. Learners have access to 11 technical and creative tracks, including generative artificial intelligence, programming, game development, animation, 3D modelling, robotics, graphic and motion design, web development, filmmaking, and digital music.

The TUMO educational model combines self-directed learning through the TUMO World platform, practical workshops led by industry professionals, and advanced MasterLabs for the most motivated students. Upon completing the programme, students build a digital portfolio of completed projects.

Since its founding, TUMO has grown into a global educational network connecting hundreds of students and alumni worldwide. Today, 25 centres operate under franchise in various countries, including Armenia (7 centres), France (Paris, Lyon, Marseille), Germany (Berlin, Mannheim, Hirschaid, Lüdenscheid, Saarbrücken, Essen), Portugal (Lisbon, Coimbra, Porto), as well as Albania (Tirana), Japan (Gunma), USA (Los Angeles), Argentina (Buenos Aires), India (Mumbai), and Kazakhstan (Astana). Centres are planned to open in Uruguay and Belgium in the near future.
