Kazakhstan has officially entered the era of legal crypto payments in the real economy. During the Head of State's visit to the alem.ai international IT hub, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev completed the country's first purchase using digital assets.
This historic transaction was made possible through the deep integration of the Binance Kazakhstan blockchain ecosystem and Alatau City Bank. In front of the President, the process took just seconds: via a standard bank QR code, digital assets were instantly converted into tenge for the business — confirming that Kazakhstan's financial system is ready for the technologies of the future.
The successful case, implemented within the National Bank's regulatory sandbox, will serve as the foundation for the project's nationwide scaling, which begins as early as May 2026. Commenting on the launch, Zhaslan Madiyev stressed: "The legal framework established in the country allows crypto companies and banks to build transparent channels of interaction. This is a strategically important process that brings digital assets out of the shadows and integrates them into Kazakhstan's economy. The advantages of cryptocurrency as a programmable instrument lie in the speed and low cost of transactions. The banking sector's deep mastery of these technologies is now a prerequisite for operating in a changing environment, and the launch of crypto payments marks a logical stage in the digitalisation of financial services."
The Chairman of the Committee on Digital Assets and Breakthrough Technologies of the Ministry of AI and Digital Development, Gizzat Baitursynov, noted that the project's May scaling will transition crypto payments from a limited-use instrument into an everyday, convenient service. According to him, Kazakhstan is establishing a unique precedent in the CIS by offering users the familiar convenience of a banking application combined with the capabilities of blockchain technology.
It is worth emphasising that Kazakhstan is keeping pace with a global trend: today, more than half a billion people worldwide use digital assets, and the volume of stablecoin transactions is comparable to the turnover of the world's largest payment systems. The launch of crypto-fiat channels solidifies the country's status as a key technology hub of Eurasia, where innovation serves citizens' interests and economic transparency.
