Cybersecurity Posture of Government Agencies Discussed at Government Meeting

An interagency meeting on strengthening the country's cybersecurity and protecting personal data was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of implementing the tasks set by the Head of State to transform Kazakhstan into a fully-fledged digital country. Particular attention was paid to the fact that the updated Constitution explicitly enshrines the right of individuals to the protection of their personal data, and that cybersecurity has taken on strategic significance in light of decisions by the Security Council.

The meeting, attended by heads of relevant ministries, local executive bodies, and the KNB State Technical Service, included a detailed report on the progress of systematic measures in the field of cybersecurity.

Among the key changes introduced is the mandatory biometric identification requirement for operators of large databases containing more than 100,000 records.

The meeting devoted particular attention to the security posture of government systems. At the same time, the results of audits of local executive bodies identified a number of systemic vulnerabilities requiring close attention and strengthened protection.

Following the meeting, instructions were issued to raise public awareness of the safe use of digital services and to intensify efforts to connect information systems to the Unified Monitoring System.

A separate point highlighted the need to strengthen the protection of personal data in the financial sector and microfinance organisations.

The Deputy Prime Minister instructed the relevant agencies to ensure strict oversight of the implementation of all supervisory directives, emphasising that cybersecurity is a fundamental condition of Kazakhstan's digital transformation.
