The launch of a project to provide high-speed internet to rural settlements based on Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology was demonstrated at the international Digital Kazakhstan forum.
The project is being implemented by Aul Telecom LLP and aims to develop modern telecommunication infrastructure in remote and economically challenging regions of the country.
During the presentation, it was noted that the network has already been deployed in 120 rural settlements, where 120 base stations have been installed. Coverage is provided for over 67,000 households and approximately 260,000 residents. The average internet access speed is 50–80 Mbit/s.
“Providing rural settlements with quality internet is one of the key tasks of the ministry. Thanks to collaboration with telecom operators, we are implementing advanced technological solutions such as FWA, which allow us to quickly connect remote villages and reduce the digital divide,” noted Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, Zhaslan Madiev.
A key moment of the demonstration was the symbolic network launch involving the minister. After activation, the status of coverage points on an interactive map changed to ‘active,’ and a video conference call was organized with residents of 10 villages connected to the network. Participants demonstrated a stable real-time connection.
“Previously, the internet was weak and unstable, making it difficult to use modern educational resources. Now, thanks to the connection, we can study online, improve our qualifications, and open up new opportunities for our students,” emphasized Abutair Alikhan, a resident of the village of Esbol and a teacher at the local school.
Following the presentation, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Telecommunications Committee and Aul Telecom LLP, aimed at further expanding coverage and developing digital infrastructure in the country’s rural regions.
