The deployment of high-speed internet on trains continues in Kazakhstan. The project is implemented using satellite technologies and is currently being developed within the framework of the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, as well as the ‘Digital Nauryz’ concept.
Currently, satellite internet is operating on Talgo trains running on two key routes: Astana – Almaty and Astana – Ust-Kamenogorsk, using OneWeb non-geostationary satellite systems with the participation of operator Jusan Mobile.
Unlike conventional mobile communications, the satellite signal does not depend on the presence of ground-based towers along the tracks. Low-orbit satellites provide minimal signal latency and a stable connection even at high train speeds.
Within the framework of the project, passengers already have access to internet speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s, allowing them to use messengers, video services, and other digital services throughout the journey.
The service launch began with a pilot project in January 2025 on the Astana – Almaty route, which proved highly popular among passengers. Subsequently, the service was extended to the Astana – Ust-Kamenogorsk direction.
The project is implemented in partnership with international technology companies and Kazakhstani telecom operators. The installed equipment is adapted for operation in moving conditions and integrated with existing train multimedia systems.
