Today, Akim of the region Gulshara Abdykalikova met with the US Consul General in Almaty Caroline Savage in an online format and discussed issues of bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, organized on the initiative of the American side, the head of the region expressed hope for strengthening mutually beneficial partnership and readiness for further joint work, focusing in detail on environmental issues, including planting trees on the dried-up bottom of the Aral Sea.
"As you know, our region is a place with environmental problems. The preservation of the Aral Sea is a problem common to all mankind, and the only way to solve it is to plant tree seedlings on the dried-up bottom of the sea. Currently, we plan to plant saxaul together with the neighboring Republic of Uzbekistan. We also know that the USAID program provides for these areas of work. I think that we should discuss this issue once again and start working urgently," the governor of the region stressed.
In turn, Caroline Savage noted the high level of relations between Kazakhstan and the United States, emphasizing the importance of establishing mutually beneficial bilateral ties with each region and expressed interest in working together.
It is worth noting that in order to preserve and restore the northern part of the Aral Sea, planting and landscaping of plants such as saxaul, sarsazan, tamarisk are carried out annually. So, last year, saxaul was planted in the region on an area of about 100 thousand hectares, in total, it is planned to increase the area of seedlings to 1 million hectares in a few years.
