On April 28 in Taldykorgan, servicemen of military unit 5514 of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan prevented a tragedy by being the first to arrive at the scene of a fire.
While on an evening patrol in the "Zhastar" microdistrict, guardsmen Nurdaulet Kusain, Janaydar Toktaubekov, and Dilshat Khakimbaev, together with company commander Serzhan Serikbolov, noticed thick black smoke rising from the window of a residential building.
The corridors from the second to the fifth floor were quickly filled with smoke, making breathing and orientation difficult. While firefighters fought the flames, the guardsmen assisted with evacuating residents—knocking on doors and helping people out of their apartments on the second floor.
On the higher floors, staying without breathing apparatus was impossible. Firefighters in protective gear reached the residents, escorted them to the second floor, and handed them over to National Guard personnel and police officers.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all services, approximately 30 people were evacuated.
- Smoke had filled the upper floors completely, visibility was zero. Despite the danger, we helped people escape to avoid gas poisoning, - said Company Commander Serzhan Serikbolov.
No one was injured as a result of the incident. Residents expressed their gratitude to the servicemen for their courage and swift assistance.
