Chevron patches, epaulettes, and insignia are distinguishing marks of military personnel in the Armed Forces. However, few consider that the uniform of the law enforcement troops incorporates elements of national ornaments – the cultural code of the Kazakh people.
One of the key attributes of the uniform is the patch of the Main Command of the National Guard, featuring the image of a shanyrak — a traditional symbol of the ancestral home. This emblem reflects the unity of all regional commands of the National Guard under the principle of centralized leadership by the Main Command.
Kazakh ornaments, carrying ancient meanings and symbolism, have also found their place in the military uniform. They can be seen on the epaulettes of office and daily uniforms from the rank of private to general. These patterns serve not only as decorative elements but also as protective symbols, as was customary among ancestors.
— National patterns in the military uniform are an element of our identity, a visual code that highlights who we are and the history we carry, — emphasized the head of the supply service, Major Darkhan Zhunusov.
Special attention is given to the uniform of the Honor Guard Company, which features traditional patterns known as qoshqar muiz (ram’s horn). These are the designs seen by foreign delegations during visits to our country. Additionally, Honor Guard personnel perform abroad alongside the National Guard Song and Dance Ensemble.
It is worth noting that guardsmen not only serve in the military but also actively participate in preserving cultural heritage. Military units organize quizzes and competitions dedicated to national traditions, as well as contests in traditional sports. Previously, law enforcement troops also initiated the inclusion of national dishes in the diet of Kazakh military personnel.
Thus, the uniform of the National Guard is not just an element of military gear but a reflection of the history, culture, and spirit of the Kazakh people.
